The Pika Lid - Beta

$16.99
Description

The ultimate lid for ultralight titanium pots that's packed with features! The Pika Lid secures your fuel canister, lighter and pot together in "trail mode" eliminating the need for a pot sack. It prevents scratches and rust rings from your fuel canister on the inside of your pot. It has a convenient unit conversion table so you don't have to do math in your head when you're trying to figure out how much water to boil for your beef stroganoff.

Are you ready for the best part? It converts your long handle titanium spoon into a pot handle! Just slide your spoon through the arches on top and you have very functional pot handle. Pour water straight into your freeze dried meal or strain excess water through the drain holes on the opposite side. You can leave the handles on the pot and your pot grabber at home.

Wanna cook inside your pot instead of boiling water? We got you covered! Flip the lid upside-down and the lid nests perfectly on the rim of the pot.

WARNING!

Even though this is a high temperature resistant thermoplastic (same plastic used for spatulas), plastic is plastic and plastic melts. To prevent melting, please follow these guidelines:

  • Do not use with 550ml pot (flame can get too close the the lid)
  • Do not use with a stove with a large burner
  • Do not use with stove on high setting (low setting is recommended for better fuel consumption anyway)
  • Do not use in a campfire
  • Center pot on stove so that the flame doesn't get too high on one side
  • Insure all 4 tabs are engaged when pouring water out

Beta Version

We have an initial batch of lids that we are selling to those of you interested in putting the final tests on the lid. We have been testing the lids on our own, but would like to see them used in many more environments and situations.

If you are interested in purchasing one of the beta lids, we ask that you have a trip (or multiple trips ideally) happening before the end of June and that you are willing to provide feedback of the lid.

I choose you Pika Lid

I've only had a chance to use this lid once so far but my overall impressions have been very good. The lid has a very tight seal on my Toaks 750ml pot. The spoon handle is very helpful for pouring boiling water to rehydrate food rather than using the hot Toaks handles. The lid works seamlessly with Snowpeaks hot lips for a warm morning beverage. The only thing I had an issue with is there were some sharp edges on the plastic left over from the manufacturing process. I was able to use some fine grit sandpaper to smooth them out. The lid can also be a bit hard to remove at first but there is a bit of a trick to it that makes it a bit easier after a few tries. All that to say this is the most superior lid I've ever used!

Unique product

Unique, quality item that resolves the issue of ill-fitting, rattly lids to my 750ml pot; a great addition to my mess kit!

Useful piece of gear

Did I need this? Nah. Is it awesome? Yea! Fits perfect on a Toaks 750ml pot and love how it holds the fuel can as well. Better than the mesh bag and avoids the can clunking around. Did not fit on a generic 750ml pot.

Great for a beta lid

Overall I think this lid is great for a beta product and I’ll continue using it on my next few trips.

Pros: It keeps everything nice and organized and contained. I really like having a long handle to adjust my pot and pour so I can keep my hands away from the hot pot - I was surprised just how much I liked this. I also like that I can see inside to confirm boiling rather than removing the lid.

Cons: Like other reviewers, I found the lid extremely tight upon arrival. It did loosen up over my first trip to a reasonable level of tight except the lighter slot. I might take a file to that before my next trip.

For reference I have a Toaks 650 Lite pot and a Brautigam Expedition Works spoon. The spoon is a little tight (not on the compatible list) but does work. The Toaks spoon slides in more freely, but my spoon is longer, so I’ll continue to use mine.
